OLV CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM
OLV Program Coordinator and Cross Country Coach:
OLV Cross Country is open to boys and girls. There are two co-ed teams for 3rd-6th grades and 7th-8th grades. Registration is open until June 1st by clicking on the Sports Registration tab above on on the home page.
OLV Cross Country program is over a decade old and considered a competitive program in CYO. New runners will develop gradually and returning runners will be given opportunities for more challenging workouts. Cross Country is an excellent sport in its own right, and is a great complement to other sports, as it builds strength and endurance. Participation is encouraged in as many practices as possible, but also welcome athletes who participate in other sports and therefore can practice only part-time.
Practices: Practices will be 2-3 times per week. Practices will begin Monday, August 8, 6:00 pm. Practices will be held at Cass Benton (located on Hines Drive, between 6 mile and 7 mile). Runners will meet in the parking area on the east side of the road, adjacent to the disc golf course. This will be the regular meeting spot for practices and home meets.
Competition: There will be 7-8 races during the season, culminating with the CYO Championship Meet, Saturday, October 15, 2016. Race distance for 4th-5th-6th Grade is (1.2) miles, while 7th-8th Graders run (2.0) miles.
Parental Involvement: Parents are welcome to run with the team during practices. If a parent is unable to run, feel free to walk or bring bikes and take advantage of the park’s bike paths. During home meets, 7 volunteers will be needed for each race.
